Exciting Week For Crowningstone Colours

The Crowningstone racing colours have been seen to great advantage this past week with all 3 runners carrying the gold and blue with distinction. Shortly after joining Crowningstone as clients

Don & Judy Kelly approached us to use the Crowningstone colours for their runners, they wanted to be an integral part of the Crowningstone team. We readily agreed and have been delighted with the success their runners have enjoyed in the Crowningstone colours. The Kelly flagbearer COSMIC ENDEAVOUR carried the colours to group 1 success on 2 occasions. Cossie is now in the pre-foaling paddock at Crowningstone due to deliver her first foal by Lonhro in about a week from now.

Wednesday last saw progressive 3 year old filly Faith’s Encore (Denman x Faith Hill) win well at Warwick Farm over 1200m, her 2nd win from 3 starts. Faith’s Encore was bred and raised at Crowningstone and retained to race by the Kelly’s. Given time to mature by Peter and Paul Snowden Faith’s Encore will likely step up to Saturday company next start then a tilt at black type in Melbourne is on the drawing board all going well at her next run.

Friday at Muswellbrook saw Contralto (Congrats x Cambiata) resume racing with a very pleasing 2nd only beaten a neck over 1280m a distance well short of her best journey. She is a half-sister to CABAZON a listed stakes winner over 2000m, her immediate family is littered with Group winners over 2000m in France.   Contralto was bred by Mia & Mike Thew at Crowningstone and retained to race. Starting her training career at Randwick with Peter and Paul Snowden she had a short preparation up to trialling at Randwick as a mid-season 2 year old and then spelled. She resumed training at Scone with Mary Moses (on Peter’s advice, to allow her time to mature) winning her first start at Scone impressively then stepping up from maiden to class 2 company for another win. After a spell at Crowningstone she returned to pre-training with Mary then on to Snowden’s with an eye to the Autumn Classics for 3yo fillies. After a very promising first up trial her form dropped away, unfortunately failing to adapt well to life in a city stable.

Now back in the more relaxed atmosphere of Mary’s Kanangra Park stables at Scone and enjoying the personalised care Mary affords all her horses, Contralto appears to have regained her enthusiasm for racing. We look forward to her again carrying the Crowningstone colours with similar class and success to that of her early wins with Mary.

The climax to the week came with 5yo mare Extensible carrying the Crowningstone colours to victory at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday in the BM 85 Handicap over 1400m. Raced by Don & JudyKelly in partnership with Kia Ora Stud from whom the Kelly’s purchased the majority share of the daughter of Exceed and Excel out of Kerimba. It was a high quality win by this exciting racemare, her next assignment will be the Angst Stakes Gr3 at Randwick in a fortnight. She bears testament to the rewards that can be gained from the patience of the Snowden team. The lightly raced Extensible looks like returning the faith and patience shown in her most generously.
